Dry skin is basically a skin disorder known as keratinized dehydrated disorder. This is the worst condition of dry skin. Dry skin is easily visible and itchy. The good thing is that as with most skin conditions, it is curable by following a few simple examples.

•    Water is your skin’s best friend.  Plenty of water intakes will help in curing dry skin as it will provide hydration thus aiding in moisturizing the skin.  The reason why water is a good stimulant for all skin conditions is because it helps in flushing out toxins and cleaning infections associated with skin problems. The result is more vibrant glowing skin.

•    Exfoliate your skin. Exfoliate your skin with a mild scrub followed by a creamy, clearing lotion or a non alkaline cleansing gel. Leave it on your skin for some time and then wipe it off with a cotton wool. This will help to clean away dirt from your skin. Refresh the skin by washing with cold water.

•    Moisturize your skin.  This is a very important step to remember. You should moisturize your skin every single time you get out of the shower or bath. It is never OK to skip! When you skin has been dried off, it’s important to seal in the moisture from the shower, and the quicker you do this after your shower, the better your skin will look and feel. If your moisturizer of choice is a body oil, it’s actually best to apply it to damp skin.

Your skin deserves the very best. Take the time to give it just that. To help you with your dry skin issues nurture your skin daily with plenty of water, nice lukewarm baths or showers, exfoliation, and moisture.
Moisturizers like shea butter and coconut oil are great for dry skin. All Sacred Glo products include these ingredients. Our products help to moisturize dry skin.

Arthritis: Conditions and Alternative Help

Arthritis is often referred to as a chronic disease. This means that it can affect the person afflicted with arthritis over a long period of time, perhaps for the rest of a person’s life.  Determining the cause of arthritis can be difficult, because often several factors contribute to an individual developing this common problem.

Some factors that may relate to arthritis include:

Genetics

Precisely how much heredity or genetics contributes to the cause of arthritis is not well understood. However, there are likely genetic differences that can contribute to the cause of arthritis.

Weight

Joint damage is partly dependent on the load the joint has to support. This is why excess body weight can lead to arthritis. This is especially true of the hips and knees that can be worn quickly in heavier patients.

Occupational Hazards

Workers in some specific occupations seem to have a higher risk of developing arthritis than other jobs. These are primarily high demand jobs such as assembly line workers and heavy construction.

Illness or Infection

People who experience a joint infection, multiple episodes of gout, or other medical conditions, can develop arthritis of the joint.

While arthritis cannot be cured, it can be treated through a variety of products, both prescription and over-the-counter, as well as natural and medical-related methods. Learning how to manage your pain over the long term is an important factor in controlling the disease and maintaining a good quality of life.

Message for Arthritis

Message is  a good alternative to help relieve one of the major symptoms connected with arthritis -joint pain – rather than treating the underlying cause, loss of cartilage. A massage therapist will lightly stroke and/or knead the painful muscle, which increases blood flow to the stressed area.

It is important to realize that arthritic joints are very sensitive, so the massage therapist must be familiar with the disease and problems associated with the affected joints. Make sure that any message therapist you choose is familiar with arthritic conditions so as not to cause further pain or injury.

You can even lightly message the areas using the Sacred Glo candles to help relax your joints and your mind so that you feel better.

“Think positively and masterfully, with confidence and faith, and life becomes more secure, more fraught with action, richer in experience and achievement.” ~Edward Rickenbacker

Believe it or not what a man thinks, he ultimately becomes.  This is what makes the power of positive thinking so important. Positive thinking is a mental attitude that declares to the mind thoughts, words and images that are advantageous to growth, expansion and success. It is a mental attitude that expects good and favorable results. A positive mind anticipates happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action. Whatever the mind expects, it finds.

The benefits of positive thinking and positive attitude are well documented. Researchers of Positive Psychology find that people with positive attitudes are happier, healthier, and live longer than those with negatives attitudes and habitual negative thinking.

If you’re a person whose first thoughts about the meaning of something that’s happened are negative thoughts, be encouraged by the knowledge that the first step toward a positive attitude and positive thinking is to simply think another thought. Thoughts are under your control. Your pessimistic way of thinking is habit; habits can be changed.
Learning to use positive affirmations will help, as will sharpening your awareness to nip negative thinking in the bud before it escalates. Learning to question and re-structure your thinking when it turns negative will help you think positively more often and stay that way.

It is important to note the positive thinking does not mean that you walk around wearing rose colored glasses. The bottom line is that reality happens. However, how you choose to handle it can come from a positive mindset.

As you go forward with this New Year, focus on developing your mind to have a more positive progressive mindset. You can become a better you just by the way you think.

There are so many ways that exercise can improve your life. Want to feel better, have more energy and perhaps even live longer? Look no further than old-fashioned exercise.

Exercise combats chronic diseases

Exercise is great to help with heart disease and prevent osteoporosis. Regular physical activity can also help to prevent — or manage — high blood pressure. Your cholesterol will benefit, too. Regular physical activity boosts high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good,” cholesterol while decreasing triglycerides. This one-two punch keeps your blood flowing smoothly by lowering the buildup of plaques in your arteries.

And there’s more. Regular physical activity can help you prevent type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and certain types of cancer.

Exercise improves your mood

Need to blow off some steam after a stressful day? A workout at the gym or a brisk 30-minute walk can help you calm down.

Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that may leave you feeling happier and more relaxed than you were before you worked out. You’ll also look better and feel better when you exercise regularly, which can boost your confidence and improve your self-esteem. Regular physical activity can even help prevent depression.

Exercise promotes stronger bones

Regular, moderate exercise — particularly weight-bearing exercises like walking, running, jogging, and dancing — keeps your bones strong. Studies show that resistance (strengthening) exercises also boost bone mass and keep muscles strong.

Exercise helps you to stress less

Regular exercise reduces the amount of stress hormones in the body, resulting in a slower heart rate, relaxed blood vessels, and lower blood pressure. Increased relaxation after exercise shows on your face with reduced muscle tension.

Exercise gives you brainpower

Exercise boosts blood flow to the brain and helps it receive oxygen and nutrients. The better shape you’re in, the faster you fire off the brain waves that are responsible for quick thinking.

So get out and get to moving. Exercise is a great way to take care of you!

Winter Skin Care Tips

Image via Wikipedia

It is the time of year when the cold weather brings with it drier, rougher skin, flakiness, itchiness and chapped sore lips. It can wreak havoc on your skin and cause you come uncomfortable moments. However, you can combat the effects of winter on your skin.

  • Drink lots of water. Proper hydration helps to keep skin cells plump and healthy. Water also helps transport nutrients to skin cells, keeping them nourished. Water-rich vegetables like leafy greens and green-skinned squashes are great for internal hydration as well as skin nourishment. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, which are dehydrating. When drinking water it should be at room temperature or slightly warm to avoid digestion issues.
  • Use a humidifier. The air inside can become very dry in the winter due to heaters and closed windows. This can making any dryness worse and cause severe itching. Use a humidifier to replace lost moisture in the air, and keep skin from drying and becoming cracked and itchy.
  • Cold weather can cause the body’s systems to stagnate. Eating warm cooked foods, drinking warm water or herb/spice teas and moderate daily exercise can help improve circulation, digestion and elimination, keeping skin healthy and clear.
  • Weekly exfoliation is important to remove dead skin cells and prevent skin from looking dull. But make sure you use a very gentle exfoliating product, and don’t scrub too hard or too long. Don’t just exfoliate the face but your body too. Learn more about the dry brush by reading this post.
  • Keep baths or showers short. Limit them to one per day and use lukewarm, not hot, water. You can also add a few drops of jojoba, almond or olive oil to the bath water to help you skin stay moist.
  • A good moisturizer, suitable for your skin type, is a must in winter, to keep skin lubricated. For best results, apply the moisturizer to damp skin immediately after cleansing, to help lock in surface moisture. Pay attention to knees, elbows, hands and feet, which tend to be drier than the rest of the body. If your skin is naturally oily, a light application is best to avoid clogging pores. But for dryer skin, try oil based moisturizers or add a few drops of olive or almond oil to your lotion.

To help you with your winter skin issues all Sacred Glo products have ingredients that are non-drying to the skin and help you maintain a healthy skin glow even in the rough winter months. We especially recommend our candles for daily moisturizing.
